Hey, everyone:

I'm an engineering student in Spain, and I was wondering which Graphing Calculator would be best for me. I have Physics, Linear Algebra and Calculus, these three being the subjects that require a graphical calculator. I have my eyes on the FX-9750. Is that a good one? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I recommend the TI-89 Titanium or Voyager 200 for the moment, but the Classpad 300 is very promising especially now, and if you have enough money, I'd recommend buying both a TI and a Casio graphic calculators

FX-9750 is lame :P
TI-89!!! You don't have to buy Titanium version beasause it has only more memory for programs/games.

    fx 9750 Plus

Posted 11 October 2005 - 08:13 PM

Well some of us aint rich, so the fx-9750G plus is the only choice, plus were not allowed CAS
But for engineering id say this calc is not much better than a non graphic caclulator such as the fx-991 MS.

Physics, Linear Algebra and Calculus

The fx-9750 is fine for these subjects, it solves lineaar equations, good for calculus as it draws graphs and solvs equations etc. I suggest u find a manual for this calculator on the internet and take a look at what it can do.

summary of your options:

.-i see a ti89 titanium this week . i think its a VERY POWERFUL MACHINE, !WOW! power CAS, much better than the AFX CAS, and HP 48 49g,g+ series CAS, and slightly over the Classpad CAS. this machine is more suitable for engineering now, and have a "friendly" TI basic programming language.thats allow you to easy programming all of you needs (in a 90% +/-), a dissapointment, the data request in a program is a "micro window" with a 4 pixels "nano font", not for wrong glasses!!!!!

.-now the Classpad (our favorite machine :roflol:),has the best hardware on market, but, casio don?t make anything to support engineering students with a new O.S that suit better with our requests (i?m a mechanical engineering student). if you are a enthusiast of programming, CP is a good deal for you, because the CP basic language is too easy, (and a bit slow :banghead: ). a bigger screen take some practice advantages, in geometry or graphing progs. CPLUA, a new standard developed here (i dont know exactly) provide a serious option as a "built in", programming language, see CP lua forums for details

.-9860g SD... WHY? no CAS, poor RAM (64 kb? i dont know? :banghead: implies it?s poor for matrix management!!), SD CARD= INFINITE MEM FOR ADD INS, 1.5 mb on flash= good, suitable, my opinion, good for university newbies, not for advanced

.- AFX 2.0 + CHEAPEST!!!!, a good notice.. now i have an AFX 2.0+, basic language is too "basic" (no
CAS on programs, no string support, no multivars, only 28 vars predefined), but is a good machine. in my university, rivalizes with HP?s, and win many times (because the basic language ables you to easy programmnig,a dissapointment..... a bit slow running on laaaarge programs :nonono: )

LAST OPTION, HP 49G+, full sized for engineers, poor for students (too hard to understand programming and functions), THE WORST STATISTICS MODE EVER MADE!!!! SUCKS HARD!!, equation writer, a good thing. high-medium range CAS (worst than TI?s), THE WORST ACCESS TO FUNCTIONS!!, A LOT OF SUBMENUS BURN TIME ON EXAMS, AND MAKES YOU A TURTLE AGAINST TIME,.............. GOODS: RPN FOR A FEW THINGS, A LOT OF ENGINEERING PROGS (20 YEARS OF DEVELOPMENT???), UNIT CONVERSION, (IN A STEALTH MENU!), USB CABLE, INFRARED (CONGRATULATIONS!), SD CARD SLOT  ....

SYS RPL AND OTHER LANGUAGES OF THE HP SERIES ARE THE FASTEST ON A CALC (LESS THAN C, ASM), BUT...ARE THE HARDEST OF ALL :banghead:

MAKE YOUR OWN DECISION, BASED ON PROGRAMMING SPECS, PRICE AND CAS QUALITY

huhn_m: Please refrain from shouting (using caps) we all hear you if you do write normal and it is a pain to read such "caps only" text

Thanks to everyone else for the pointers. Appreciated. :)

please include the english translation or at least a short note what you wrote so that we all can read it.

This is an international forum. We don't mind help in native language but we need to know whats going on here ... :D

I'm quite sorry, I'll include a translation:

de nuevo metalleer, para lo basico..una AFX 2.0+ va bien hasta el 2do 3er a?o de carrera...luego podrias irte por una classpad (en espera de mejoras para los proximos a?os), o una Texas Instruments TI89 titanium, que a mi parecer es la maquina mas balanceada para ingenieria, pues combina poder con facilidad de uso y facilidad de programacion..

again metalleer , for basic deals, the AFX 2.0 fullfill the 2nd and half 3rd years of any engineering student. soon you can buy a classpad (waiting for new improvements for the next years), or buy a TI89 titanium, the most equilibrated calc for engineering students now, because combines power with easy interface, and a pretty and easy programming language...
