Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum! ..I arrived this site by surfing in the web looking for an answer, I hope to find it here..
I'm about to buy a new scientific calculator, the problem is that I don't know the difference between two models...These are casio Fx 115 ES and casio Fx 991 ES. I downloaded the manuals (they're the same) but....is there any difference between these calculators?.......I hope you can tell me

Well That's all....Thank you very much in advance

fx-991ES basically is a full functions model in the ES serie. In previous models the fx-115MS had not constant table, which was present in the fx-991MS.

Concerning user manual and CASIO web site, fx-115ES and fx-991ES both same models.
But I preffer to buy the fx-991ES instead of fx-115ES. May be, the fx-115ES will contain some undocumended surprize.

....Then, another question came up...Is there any "documented" surprize for the the 991 ES??

Hi.
Well, I think he meant that there are hidden features of the 115 ES. If you know what you must type the keyboard to activate these hidden functions, your 115 ES may become 991 ES. That did happen with fx500MS, which can be upgraded to fx570MS or fx991MS by the user.
The "undocumented surprised" may be some fun things on your calculators, such as running words, running number, freez up the calcs.

Are there any noticable differences between the two models? I'm in Canada so i can't get the fx-991-es, but should i wait and try to get it from Asia, or is the fx-115-es essentially the same thing?

does the fx-115-es have the 40 scientific constants?

hate to sound to repetitive, but i just want to know of any differences between the two models.

It does have the 40 constants. I just bought it, but I havn't really used it yet. From what I can see though, it a pretty amazing calculator.

What do you mean? The size of the fx-991ES is typical for a scientific calculator.

What do you mean? I don't think you can use those letters as variables, I thought A,B,C,D,E,F were for writing out hex numbers.

I don't know why but they sell them as ?x-991ES in Europe and as ?x-115ES in the USA.
As far as I know, the difference is only in name, not in function.

I was just wondering, how exactly can you make running words or numbers in the FX991ES?

I would like to know how to calculate finite differences in Fx-991 MS.
if there is no direct way of finding it, i would appreciate if i get some shortcuts for calculation it. :)

I've got the 991ES.
Could anyone tell me how do I solve an equation like

Acos(theta) + Bsin(theta) + C=0

Where A,B,C are constants.

Has any of you ever tried find square root of a complex number with 991ES?

It's quite intriguing and embarrassing as well to find complex domain so limited.

Also while typing an angle it shows degree marks for all degree, minute and second though it interprets correctly.

Hey,

I'm new to this forum.. umm im having trouble with the fx-991. I am unable to perform the calculation of 6x10-11 (6 to the power of -11) minus 5. The answer shows up as 5. I've tried that with any other number in exponential notation and the answer is the answer of whatever number im adding. Can anyone tell me how to fix that.. plz ?!?

Well, the answer would be -4.99999999994 which rounds to -5 on any calculator that displays less than 12 significant digits (the vast majority of calculators). Try 6x10^-2 - 5 and you'll see that the calculator processes this correctly.

    Fx-115ES

Hello, I have a fx-115ES. I have been trying to figure out how to find the derivative. I know that the manual has some brief and ambiguous instructions on how to do so, but it's not that intuitive for me. I was wondering if anyone here knows how to accoplish this.

What i am trying to do is calculate the slope of a tangent line on any given point on the function, instantaneous rate of change, or derivative.

somehow the the calculator must be able to do the following.
1. calculare the and simplify the difference quotient
2. find the limit as h approached 0.

in the top left of the keypad i see the d/dx button (it's a shift to get it to pop up). At that point it as for some fields that i am not familiar with .

Can anyone kindly help?
Many thanks.
